Many professional Finnish musicians have had their first experience of playing in an orchestra in the ranks of the Kokkola Orchestra now celebrating its 50th anniversary. Our soloist is Anu Komsi, a soprano born in Kokkola and now familiar to audiences worldwide. The programme promises a song cycle composed especially for her by Kaija Saariaho, along with Tanhurytmi by Erik Fordell, composed for the Kokkola Orchestra, and a symphonic classic, Schubert’s Unfinished. The jubilee concert will be conducted by young rising star Taavi Oramo.
