The award-winning concert pianist Anton Mejias—whose internationally acclaimed Bach album has recently been released by Deutsche Grammophon—appears for the first time as soloist with the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra. Alongside Bach’s Piano Concerto, the programme features two powerful contemporary works: Fretus by Cecilia Damström, which reflects on humanity’s relationship with the sea, and Terra Memoria by Kaija Saariaho, a meditative journey through the layers of memory and the earth. The evening concludes with a lively youthful work by Mendelssohn.
The concert is conducted by the radiant Slovenian-born conductor Mojca Lavrenčič, winner of First Prize at the prestigious La Maestra International Conducting Competition.
