- Season tickets and series tickets now on sale
The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra’s autumn season includes much-anticipated reunions, a festival visit, traditional Christmas concerts and the orchestra's founder and honorary conductor Juha Kangas’ anniversary concert. Season and series tickets are now on sale.
The artistic director of the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra (OCO), violinist Malin Broman, will visit Kokkola twice during the autumn. In the Opening concert of the autumn season on 12 September, the orchestra and Malin will be joined by Dutch-born double bassist Rick Stotijn, who will take the audience on an Italian journey. In November, Malin will be joined by Swedish dancer Noah Hellwig, allowing also the orchestra to become part of the choreography. The same programme will be performed not only in Kokkola on 14 September but also in Hyvinkää on 15 September.
The season consists also of much-anticipated reunions: Christoffer Sundqvist, principal clarinetist in the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra makes his long-awaited return to the orchestra on 31 October, with "Toffe" also leading the concert. Conductor John Storgårds also returns to Kokkola, conducting the Festivo concert on 7 November, where many of the composers on the programme will celebrate anniversaries. Students from the Central Ostrobothnia Conservatory will also be on stage.
The 80th anniversary concert of the orchestra's founder and honorary conductor Juha Kangas will be held on 28 November at the Snellman Music Center. The programme features composers and works important to Juha and the orchestra, such as Mozart, P.H. Nordgren and Peteris Vasks. The concert will also feature a brand new work by composer Juho Kangas. Bach's Violin Concerto in E major will be performed by Kasmir Uusitupa.
OCO will be playing on the third solo album by Kaustinen-based singer-songwriter Aili Järvelä, with Pekka Kuusisto as artistic producer. The release concert of the VUORI album will be held on 26 September at Snellman Music Center, where Järvelä and OCO are joined on stage by Laura Hynninen, the harpist featured on the album. The concert will be conducted by Kaapo Ijas.
The season ends with a traditional Christmas concert in Kokkola Church on 12 December, conducted by Elisar Riddelin. The seasonal works will be accompanied by beloved Christmas carols, performed by Kokkola-born soprano Meeri Pulakka.
In the week before the Christmas concert, 3-4 December, the orchestra is performing at the Christmas concerts of its long-time partner, Osuuskauppa KPO, in the Church of Mustasaari and in the church of Ylivieska, conducted by Mikael Loponen. The soloist is baritone Gabriel Kiviuori Sereno.
This autumn OCO will again visit the prestigious RUSK festival in Pietarsaari under the baton of Anna-Maria Helsing on 22 November, while baritone Aarne Pelkonen, cellist Jonathan Roozeman, violinist Kreeta-Maria Kentala and Indian flutist Shashank Subramanyam and his friends will perform as soloists in a varied programme.
Hit songs by Mimmit, the children's music group familiar from TV, will be performed in string orchestra arrangements at family concerts in Pietarsaari and Kokkola on 8-9 October.
Working with children and youth is an essential part of the orchestra's year-round activities. This autumn, the orchestra will again participate in the national Taidetestaajat cultural education programme with concerts in both Finnish and Swedish.
In the school year 2025-2026, the Chamber Orchestra starts a new project, ”First Year Concerts”, inviting the 1st graders and their teachers from primary schools in the entire Central Ostrobothnia region to concerts to celebrate the start of their school career. The first year students of upper secondary schools will also be invited to their own concerts.
