New record with Malin Broman and the OCO out now
- Pekka Kuusisto one of the soloists
The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra (OCO) and its Artistic Director Malin Broman has made a second CD together. ’Recharged by nature’ (ABCD-473) for record label Alba consists of music by some of the most interesting composers from Sweden and Finland at the moment. None of these works have been recorded earlier.
Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodi (b. 1981) composed her Acanthes, the 26-minute concerto for two violins, for Pekka Kuusisto, Malin Broman and the Musica Vitae Chamber Orchestra in 2017, inspired by Henri Matisse’s “Papiers découpés” series of works. Soloists on this record are once again Malin Broman and Pekka Kuusisto.
The productive swedish composer Mats Larsson Gothe (b. 1965) composed his work for strings 'Lied von der Erde' for the Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra's 40th anniversary in 2012. The title refers, in Larsson Gothe’s mind, to the “emergence of music from the earth, as if from folk-music-like compost”.
Britta Byström's (b. 1977) Im Freien (2020), written for Malin Broman, was composed in the first months of the Covid pandemic when the composer, like so many others, was stuck at home during lockdown. Byström was also inspired by traditional West African music, that is usually performed outdoors. "The work is like a musical trek,” Byström explains.
Sauli Zinovjev (b. 1988) is a finnish composer, who's background in rock is clearly audible in the straightforward expression of 'Recharged', described in the Helsingin Sanomat review as a “big bang”. The Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra performed the premiere under conductor Klaus Mäkelä in 2019, and the work has since been performed several times in Finland, Sweden and even Central Europe.
The record can be bought viarecord label Alba or the Orchestra / Netticket web shop. The record will also be available on Spotify.
