The Elgar Cello Concerto is an astoundingly powerful work, so no wonder it is one of the most popular works in the late-Romantic orchestral repertoire. Prize-winning Swedish-Norwegian cellist Amalie Stalheim grew up with this concerto, and listeners right across the province now have a chance to hear her. The combined strings of the OCO and the Vaasa City Orchestra under conductor Tomas Djupsjöbacka will also be fanning the flames in the other items on the programme: the fourth symphony by Schumann and a work by Outi Tarkiainen inspired by the wonder of motherhood.
