All Saints' Eve Concert - Metamorphoses

Kasmir Uusitupa, conductor
Torleif Thedéen, cello

In a concert inspired by the atmosphere of All Saints’ Day, the programme is framed by two monuments of Western art music with cycles—life’s circle and transformation—at its centre. The Swedish cellist Torleif Thedéen, one of the foremost soloists in the Nordic countries, returns as a guest and guides the listener between the earthly and the beyond in Pēteris Vasks’ Cello Concerto No. 2.

The concert also features Liminal Space by the promising Lithuanian composer Milda Venckutė, a work that leads the audience towards a cornerstone of the string orchestra repertoire: Richard Strauss’s Metamorphosen.
